Merger News Special October 2018
We have announced this week our intention to merge with Irnham Lodge Surgery to create one single practice in the town.
Harley House and Irnham Lodge Surgeries said that they would continue to work from two different sites for the foreseeable future but they plan to merge the business partnership and practice teams in 2019. The practices said the merger aims to ensure the sustainability of general practice services in Minehead, by creating resilience and a robust surgery partnership which they hope will be attractive to new recruits, particularly GPs.
Permission is required from NHS England and the practices will now embark upon a period of public consultation working with their Patient Participation Groups.
Both surgeries have seen experienced doctors retire in recent years with more planned retirements to come and are struggling to attract new GPs due to the national recruitment crisis. The partners have agreed that now is the time to join forces to create sustainability Harley House Surgery senior GP partner Dr John Higgie said: The future for patients is bright, the experienced teams from both practices delivering exceptional patient care all focussed on the users, our patients. We are taking action now to ensure sustainable primary care services for our community.” Irnham Lodge Surgery GP partner Dr Ed Ford said the intended merger would provide an opportunity to improve current service provision for patients in the town.
